Best Golf Courses in Guanacaste Costa Rica to Play During your Stay
If you’re looking for the ultimate luxury golf vacation, look no further than the Point Luxury Villa. Located between the beaches of Tamarindo and Langosta, our luxury rental is perfectly situated for access to the best golf courses in Guanacaste Costa Rica.
Tamarindo Golf Courses
Two of the best golf courses in the province of Guanacaste Costa Rica are located a mere half an hour drive from The Point Luxury Villa. One of these world-class Tamarindo golf courses is located within the prestigious Reserva Conchal, a 2,300-acre resort that sits on one of the most beautiful white sand beaches in Costa Rica – Playa Conchal.
Reserva Conchal Golf Course: The Reserva Conchal Golf Course is an 18-hole course designed by Robert Trent Jones. He managed to lay out the 18 fairways without taking down a single native Banyan tree, which are impressively large trees that produce several aerial roots that hang down and touch the ground. The course also features man-made ponds and lagoons that filter runoff during the rainy season (May through November) and are recycled and put to good use in the dry season (December through April). This course is one of three in Costa Rica to be designated as a Certified Audubon Sanctuary for its commitment to sustainability. Due to this careful consideration, the grounds are abundant with wildlife like howler monkeys, iguanas, and countless birds.
Extending nearly 7,000 yards from the back markers, the Reserva Conchal Course has two nines that meander off into the surrounding tropical forest before returning to the lagoons that run alongside the Pacific Ocean. The ocean breezes and elevation changes on this championship course makes for an interesting and challenging day of golf!
Golfers at Reserva Conchal Golf Course have access to two pro shops – one at the Reserva Conchal Beach Club and one at the Westin Resort. For a fun change, the course features Night Golf with fluorescent balls, putting-green laser games, driving range glow golf, and cocktails and appetizers.
Hacienda Pinilla Golf Course: Also located within a half an hour drive from The Point Luxury Villa is the Hacienda Pinilla Golf Course, which is situated within the upscale private residential development of Hacienda Pinilla. The 18-hole, 72-par course was designed by architect Mike Young who carefully routed the holes through the native Matapalo trees in two circuits of nine holes. The course, which can play up to 7,200 yards, is also designated as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary for its preservation of ecological balance and preservation.
Golfers here enjoy the strategic 9th hole called “hilltop”. The par-4 hole offers the chance to lay up short of the fairway bunkers then play a long iron to a raised green, guarded by sand and a severe slope. The most memorable hole, however, is the par-3 “sea mist”, which has players emerging from the dense tropical forest into a clearing where the blue Pacific Ocean serves as a beautiful backdrop for a seaside golf game.
Hacienda Pinilla Beach and Golf Resort features a small clubhouse with a pro shop and an open air bar and grill to enjoy some refreshment before your tee time or after your round of golf. As with most other golf resorts, golfers here can book private instruction for anyone looking to up their game.
If you want to have some fun and practice your short game, the selection of Tamarindo golf courses also includes mini golf. Bolas Locas Mini Golf in Tamarindo is just a few minutes’ walk from the beach. The 18-hole course takes players through the best sights in Costa Rica, including volcanos, waves, and a waterfall.
Golf Courses in Guanacaste Costa Rica
Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica Golf Course: Although this golf course is located nearly a two-hour drive north of The Point Luxury Villa, it’s worth adding to our list, as it is rated the number one golf course in Costa Rica. Of course, if you have the means and don’t want to wait, our villa can accommodate a helicopter landing and we are a premier partner of Carmen Air. Just one of the many perks at The Point! The Ocean Course at the Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo is an 18-hole course designed by pro golfer Arnold Palmer. This par-72 course pairs challenging elevations with stunning views of the bay.
The layout of this heavily contoured course is carved through dense tropical forest, featuring water hazards at several holes. The 6th hole, called “el bajo”, is the signature hole at the Four Seasons, with an elevated view of the Culebra Bay. The tree-lined fairway is a hard won par-4, which plunges 200 feet on its way to the shallow green.
The championship Ocean Course features a driving range and sand bunker practice area, putting and chipping greens, and complimentary transportation from the main lobby to the course. The 1,400 square foot pro shop has a wide variety of golf and tennis gear for men and women.

Exceptional Weather
Whether you’re traveling to Costa Rica’s Pacific coast during rainy season or dry season, you can almost always find a clear morning to enjoy a round of golf. The rainy season, or green season, in the part of the country where The Point Luxury Villa is situated rarely sees a full rainy day. A typical day here during green season is sunny in the morning, clouding up in the early afternoon for some much needed shade during the hottest point of the day, and a short but heavy deluge of rain in the late afternoon or early evening, cooling things off for the next day. During the dry season, on the other hand, you can expect to see a sunny day from sun up at 6 am to sun down at 6 pm. During these months we suggest morning rounds of golf or late afternoon.
The heat of the day, which usually hits 32 degrees Celsius (90 degrees Fahrenheit) is best spent in The Point’s ocean-side infinity pool or cooling off indoors on our custom made leather sofas while you relax in front of the 60-inch television.
